Ingredients

  • 2 lb lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 large yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 8 slices medium cheddar cheese
  • 6 oz shredded medium cheddar cheese
  • 24 dinner rolls
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a rimmed baking sheet with melted butter.
  2. In a large skillet over medium/high heat, add olive oil and diced onion. Cook until the onion is soft.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder; cook until browned.
  4. Tilt the skillet to drain excess fat, then stir in mayonnaise until well combined.
  5. Cut the dinner rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves on the baking sheet. Layer with sliced cheese, followed by the beef mixture, and top with shredded cheese.
  6. Place the tops of buns cut-side down over fillings, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  7. Bake for about 12–15 minutes until the cheese melts and tops are golden brown.
